Pedro de Gouveia e Melo joined the firm in 2002. He is a member of the European Law and Competition team.

Pedro’s practice focuses on advising and representing clients on all fields of competition law (antitrust investigations, merger control, State aid, private enforcement and competition compliance), foreign investment and foreign subsidies control, as well as on EU law. He has deep experience in a wide range of industries, such as energy, financial services and food & beverages.

He regularly appears before the Portuguese Competition Authority and the European Commission, as well as in litigation before the European Court of Justice, the EU General Court and the Portuguese courts.

Pedro leads the firm’s competition practice in Portuguese-speaking African countries, with extensive experience in advising and representing clients before the Competition Regulatory Authorities of Angola and Mozambique.

Pedro was the President of the U.A.E. – European Lawyers’ Union between 2020 and 2022. He speaks and writes regularly on EU and competition law and is recommended by Chambers Europe, Legal 500 and Best Lawyers. He was seconded to Latham & Watkins LLP in Washington, DC in 2007.
