IFLR: Morais Leitão is again “Portugal Law Firm of the Year” and Margarida Torres Gama wins “Rising Star” Award

For the third consecutive year, and for the ninth time, Morais Leitão wins the “Portugal Law Firm of the Year” category at the IFLR Europe Awards. The ceremony, which took place yesterday in London, celebrates innovation in business law, especially in the areas of corporate/M&A, capital markets, banking and finance and project finance.

Margarida Torres Gama, senior lawyer of the firm, won the important award of "Rising Star of the Year", thus highlighting at a European level her significant career. Margarida has been actively taken part in several of the most relevant transactions and operations of the last years.

In the Equity category, Morais Leitão was shortlisted for advising the synthetic accelerated bookbuilding (“ABB”) of EDP Renováveis, which deserved international prominence. The best European M&A transaction was the acquisition by Euronext of the Borsa Italiana Group, in which the firm also participated.

Highlighting the firm’s impressive growth and continuous sophistication of work, Morais Leitão has won this year the two most prestigious sector awards – Chambers Portugal Law Firm of the Year and now IFLR Portugal Law Firm of the Year.

This prestigious directory recognises transactions and protagonists in terms of innovation and complexity, following a careful process of independent analysis of the transactions in question and the opinion of clients and peers.

IFLR Editor of Awards Research Jamie Rayat said of Morais Leitão’s win:

“Morais Leitão are once again the winner of the Portugal Firm of the Year at IFLR’s Europe Awards.

The firm put in a first-class performance across the board in 2021, most notably in the equity capital markets and private equity practice areas. Strong work from the firm noted by IFLR's awards research team included advice on the EDP Renováveis share placement.

This deal was shortlisted in the equity deal of the year category and is considered by IFLR's research team as among the most innovative cross-border deals of the year."

Recognising Morais Leitão’s Margarida Torres Gama as a Rising Stars of the year in a domestic firm, Jamie Rayat said: “For the second year running, a Morais Leitão lawyer takes home one of IFLR’s prestigious Rising Star Awards, which recognise senior associate-level lawyers for their role on innovative transactions.

Margarida Torres Gama impressed our judging panel with an excellent body of work, such as leading a team advising NOS on its entry into the insurance distribution business, as well as advising listed conglomerate Sonae on complex strategic divestments."
