Catarina Monteiro Pires appointed international arbitrator of the South China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission

Catarina Monteiro Pires, partner of Morais Leitão was invited to join SCIA's panel of international arbitrators also known as South China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission.
 
Established to resolve disputes through arbitration - both domestically and internationally - SCIA is the first Chinese arbitration institution to integrate arbitrators from foreign jurisdictions. For the next three years Catarina Monteiro Pires will be one of those international experts.

Also known as the Shenzhen Arbitration Commission or South China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission, SCIA was established in 1983 in the Special Economic Zone of Shenzhen, China. A few years later, in 2012, they adopted its own arbitration rules, becoming the first national arbitration institution under the Chinese law.

Throughout more than three decades of arbitration practice, the prestigious commission has been involved in mediation and arbitration in 116 countries and regions thus achieving a reputation of international credibility, as a result of the joint efforts of arbitrators from more than 50 countries, which will now include the portuguese Catarina Monteiro Pires.

For the university professor, these invitations are "certainly enriching challenges".

Catarina Monteiro Pires is involved in the resolution of disputes specially regarding domestic and international arbitration. Furthermore, she also acts as an arbitrator and lawyer, representing both domestic and foreign clients. Catarina Monteiro Pires is also an arbiter in the Commercial Arbitration Center of the Portuguese Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
