António Lobo Xavier

António Lobo Xavier became a Morais Leitão partner in 2006. 

Board member and advisor at several national and international companies in the finance, TMT and industry sectors, he was responsible for multiple restructuring operations, mergers and acquisitions evolving double taxation. 

Lately, he has advised relevant family-based groups and their shareholders in succession planning and management.

He actively intervened in several arbitration proceedings, namely as arbitrator of the Administrative Arbitration Center.

From 1983 to 1996, he was often elected a member of the Portuguese Parliament, leading his party’s group for about two years. During that time, he also taught at the university.

Member of the Fiscal Reform Commission of 1988 and chairman of the Corporate Tax Reform Commission of 2013, he currently presides the commission on Corporate Tax Reform.

In 1989, he established Osório de Castro, Verde Pinho, Vieira Peres, Lobo Xavier e Associados – Sociedade de Advogados –, being a partner untill the merger with Morais Leitão, Galvão Teles Soares da Silva & Associados in 2006.

António Lobo Xavier is a member of the State Council, advising President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa since 2016.

Education

Law Degree (Coimbra Faculty of Law, 1982). Master's Degree in Legal Economics (Coimbra Faculty of Law, 1988). Specialist Lawyer in Tax (title awarded by the Portuguese Bar Association in 2004).
