Gonçalo Machado Borges

Gonçalo Machado Borges joined the firm in 2006 and became a non-equity partner in 2019. He is a member of the firm’s European law and competition team and, since 2017, coordinates the firm’s TMT practice group.

In the telecoms and media sectors he has been regularly involved since 2003 in regulatory, competition and litigation matters, including consultations preceding the adoption of ANACOM resolutions; judicial challenges against individual decisions and regulations; designing remedies in merger control cases; and negotiating contracts, covering multiple matters, between Telco operators and contracts with infrastructure access providers.

In recent years he has increasingly specialized in digital economy topics, including e-commerce, cybersecurity and digital marketing.

He also practices in several areas of European and competition law, notably matters related to anticompetitive agreements and abuse of dominance (including at the appellate / trial stage) as well as merger control procedures in a wide range of sectors, in particular electronic communications in which he has intervened in all of the major consolidation moves in Portugal since 2006. He has been increasingly involved in private enforcement actions, as counsel to parties in the main cases decided to date in Portugal and also in recent high-profile class actions.
