João Lima Cluny

Senior Associate

João Lima Cluny joined the firm in 2007. He is a member of the litigation team. He is also a member of the Arbitration, Sports Law and Infrastructure teams. Previously João Lima Cluny worked with the corporate and commercial team.

Invited Professor at the Nova Law School (Interdisciplinary Legal Practice).

He is a member of the First Instance Body for Club Licensing for UEFA competition of the Portuguese Football Federation and a member of the Certification Jury for the Recognition, Validation and Certification Process of Professional Competences of Football Coaches, nominated by the Portuguese Football Federation.

He is also President of the Justice Council of the Portuguese Bridge Federation.

João Lima Cluny was Secretary of the Editorial Board of Sports & Law, Sports Law Journal and Member of the Supervisory Board of the Portuguese Sports Law Association from April 2011 to June 2015.

He is an Arbitrator and Mediator of the Portuguese Court of Arbitration for Sports.

João Lima Cluny participates in seminars and conferences and lectures predominantly on Arbitration and Sport’s Law in postgraduate courses. Author and co-author of articles on the same areas.


Law Degree (Nova Law School, 2007). Specific Elite Training - Sports Law – Specialization Football (Quest – Soluções para o Desporto, 2009). Master’s Degree in Forensic Law (Nova Law School, 2012). Advanced Course on Data Protection (University of Lisbon School of Law, 2013).

Portuguese Bar Association (admitted in 2010). Portuguese Sports Law Association (since 2009). Forum – Criminal Lawyers Association (since 2016).
