João Matos Viana joined the firm in 2001. He is a member of the litigation and arbitration team.
Currently he practices in the area of litigation, focusing specifically on criminal and misdemeanours offences particularly focusing on misdemeanours involving banking, securities, competition, pharmaceutical law, publicity law and planning.
João collaborates regularly in administrative, tax and corporate areas regarding the criminal/misdemeanour matters.

Law Degree (Law Faculty of the University of Lisbon, 2001). Master’s Degree in Criminal Law (Law Faculty of the University of Lisbon, 2008). Currently preparing his Doctoral thesis at the Doctoral programme of the Law Faculty of the University of Lisbon. Criminal Law Lecturer at Law Faculty of the University of Lisbon, since 2005. Coordinated several Post Graduated Studies Conferences. Author of several articles regarding criminal and misdemeanour law and criminal procedure.
Portuguese Bar Association (admitted in 2003). Researcher at the Institute of Criminal Law and Criminal Sciences - Law Faculty of the University of Lisbon. Member of the Pedagogic Council of the Law Faculty of the University of Lisbon (2012/2013 and 2015/2016). Member of the Board and associate (since 2016) of the Criminal Forum – Criminal Lawyers Association.
