Fernanda Matoso joined the firm in 1984 and became a partner in 1988.

Coordinates the life sciences practice area and the team of lawyers also engaged in this practice; Former coordinator of the public law and urban planning practice area (until May 2017) and was for several years member of the Firm Board of Directors.

Fernanda has a diverse practice as lawyer. Currently her practice is mainly focused on life sciences, especially in dealing with international pharmaceutical companies that market medicines and medical devices in Portugal.

Fernanda´s sustained knowledge of the national health market and health care system is highly recognized. As a practitioner has a deep knowledge and expertise in the regulatory framework of the pharmaceutical industry activity and respective products (medicines, medical devices, cosmetics, food supplements and other health products), of wholesale distribution activity, of the healthcare institutions, and associated topics, such as licensing, marketing authorizations, prices regulation, State reimbursement/funding mechanisms, promotion/advertising activities, commercial policies, patients protection, data protection, compliance, health products marketing and distribution, clinical trials, commercial contracts, public tenders for the supplies to the National Health Service, and associated litigation and arbitration.

Fernanda is also well trained on global transactions (business separation, acquisitions, mergers, etc) involving international pharmaceutical companies worldwide, being regularly invited to integrate international teams of lawyers engaged in such transactions.

For several years so far, Fernanda collaborates regularly with Thomson Reuters and Getting the Deal Through in life sciences publications with articles on the regulation of health products (medicines and medical devices), Regulatory and Supervision Authorities and respective enforcement framework.

During her career, Fernanda led several projects in the public law area, such as the expropriation project for the construction of “Ponte Vasco da Gama” bridge over the river Tagus (Lisbon) and the subway project executed in municipalities of Lisbon surrounding area (“Metro Sul do Tejo”). 

Fernanda also has a sustained practice in providing legal services related with negotiation of contracts, commercial law and dispute resolution.

Fernanda Matoso was distinguished in 2021 by Iberian Lawyer as one of the Top 50 Women in the Iberian Legal Sector in the scope of the Award – Inspira Law.

Law Degree (Universidade Livre de Lisboa, 1984).
