The increasing sophistication of cybercrime and ongoing technological developments pose new challenges for businesses, requiring an increasingly strategic approach to cybersecurity.
Adriana Brás analyses, in the video “Cybercrime in Businesses”, published by Observador, the cybersecurity risks faced by companies in a context of reliance on digital technologies.
The principal associate explains that technology is both a driver of development and a source of vulnerability, enabling increasingly sophisticated forms of cybercrime. She highlights fraud schemes based on social engineering, often targeting decision-makers, as well as the impact of artificial intelligence on the creation of credible and hard-to-detect messages.
Prevention therefore plays a central role. Adriana underlines the need for an integrated approach to cybersecurity, encompassing technical safeguards, information security policies, senior management involvement, a clear allocation of internal responsibilities and continuous team training.
In such situations, a swift and coordinated response is required, ensuring the preservation of digital evidence and compliance with legal and regulatory obligations, in a context of strengthened European regulation, namely through the NIS 2 Directive and the DORA Regulation.
These incidents have impacts that go far beyond the financial dimension, affecting business continuity and the trust of clients, partners and employees. Cybersecurity must therefore be regarded as a strategic priority for businesses.
Adriana Brás is also a member of Morais Leitão’s Digital Defence team, which provides specialised legal advice on the prevention, response to and management of cyber incidents and cybercrime.
