Claudia Santos Cruz takes part in the IBA’s international conference on ESG in Paris

Claudia Santos Cruz, a partner at Morais Leitão and Vice-Chair of the IBA African Regional Forum, is participating as Session Chair at the international conference “ESG in evolution: the legal imperatives of tomorrow”, organised by the International Bar Association (IBA), which takes place on 26 and 27 March in Paris.

The event brings together lawyers and legal professionals from various jurisdictions to analyse the main legal challenges associated with the evolution of ESG, in a context marked by regulatory, political and market changes.

As part of the programme, Claudia Santos Cruz will chair the session “Ubuntu, an African approach to ESG”. The session will focus on the concept of Ubuntu as a set of African values centred on environmental stewardship, community and morality, which is widely recognised and embedded in various African communities.

The panel will also explore the similarities between the principles of responsible investment and Ubuntu, as well as the differences in framework between concepts developed in the Global North and African perspectives on ESG.
