Gaming Law Practice: MLGTS Legal Circle launches new international practice area

MLGTS Legal Circle, a network of partnerships of Morais Leitão, Galvão Teles, Soares da Silva & Associados (MLGTS) has recently created a new practice area - Gaming Law Practice. MLGTS is now the first and only Portuguese-speaking law firm to provide specialized legal assistance in all the sectorial areas of Gaming.

This new venture from MLGTS Legal Circle is the result of new opportunities registered in the Portuguese market (consequence of to the liberalization of online gambling) and of the recent legislatives alterations established in several Portuguese-speaking jurisdictions, allied to the historical assistance that MLGTS provides to local casino operators.
In Angola and Mozambique, the regulation of this market in particular is most likely to increase.

João Alfredo Afonso and Bernardo Azevedo are both responsible for coordinating this new practice area in Portugal, at MLGTS. In Angola, Irina Neves Ferreira e João Francisco Cunha from the Angola Legal Circle law office are the coordinators and in Mozambique, Fabrícia de Almeida Henriques together with Mara Rupia Lopes are responsible for this area at Henriques, Rocha & Associados (Mozambique Legal Circle).

“The creation of the this new international practice area in Gaming Law is a result of the natural process of consolidation and structuring of the know-how acquired in all four offices of our network and it will allow us to provide a specialized and experienced service, so that we can assist our clients in each one of the jurisdictions”, says João Alfredo Afonso.

The creation and launching of this new practice area, makes MLGTS Legal Circle the only network of Portuguese-speaking law firms capable of creating this practice area and of advising clients in all these different jurisdictions (although in different stages).

The first initiative of this new practice area – the publication of a multi-jurisdictional gaming law guide – was announced in Macau. The “Global Legal Gaming Guide” will cover 25 plus jurisdictions around the world and will be launched in May in the context of G2E Asia, one of the largest gaming conventions in the world.
