Insolvency and Corporate Restructuring: Opportunities and Challenges

Between January and September, there were 3.255 insolvency cases registered in court, of which 1.122  were  presented by the companies themselves.  This represents an increase of 96%  comparing with 2008. The total  number of insolvency cases rose 55.9% and  the number of bankruptcies 40%.  And it is expected that this trend will continue.

This is the reality of companies nowadays, so insolvency and company reestructuring is a quite relevant topic. Companies should envisage an insolvency plan as a possible measure of economic recovery. It is necessary that entrepreneurs are well informed, especially on these concepts, implications, legal mechanisms and support measures. There must be information sharing, exchange of experiences and knowledge about the success stories.

For all these reasons, Morais Leitão, Galvão Teles, Soares da Silva is organizing in collaboration with the American Chamber of Commerce in Portugal a seminar on this subject,  focusing on a more practical approach to  the topic.

Date:  11 and 12 November 2009
Location: Auditorium João Morais Leitão, Lisbon
