Joana Galvão Teles, partner at Morais Leitão, will join the discussion panel of the Brazilian Arbitration Forum, organized by the ICC – International Chamber of Commerce and SciencesPo Law School, to be held in Paris on 12 September.
The debate will focus on public policy in international arbitration, considered one of the most complex and constantly evolving dimensions of this field. Under the central question — is public policy a safeguard of justice or a procedural tool increasingly used to challenge arbitral awards? — the panel will bring together leading practitioners and scholars to examine how arbitral tribunals and national courts define and apply this concept, both procedurally and substantively.
The roundtable will also feature Paulo Mota Pinto, Full Professor of Civil Law at the University of Coimbra and independent arbitrator; Matthieu De Boisséson, partner at Boisséson Arbitration; and Ana Gerdau de Borja, partner at Citadelle Disputes. The discussion will be moderated by Diego Alexandre-Garcia Fernández, Deputy Counsel at the ICC International Court of Arbitration.
Special attention will be given to Lusophone jurisdictions, with comparative perspectives from France, providing insight into the diverse international approaches. Key topics will include corruption, procedural fairness, and the emergence of new dimensions of public policy in arbitral practice, as well as the divergent approaches to annulment and enforcement across jurisdictions.
This event will be a unique opportunity to explore current debates and gain practical insights into one of the most relevant and debated frontiers of contemporary arbitration.
