Maria Soares do Lago is taking part in Fórum Banca 2026, which will take place on 10 March at the Ritz Hotel in Lisbon, bringing together leaders from the banking, technology and regulatory sectors, as well as members of the Government, to discuss the main challenges facing the financial sector in Portugal.

The Morais Leitão lawyer will take part in an interview within the session “ESG and Green Credit: Are They Here to Stay?”, included in the event’s programme. Key topics will include the impact of artificial intelligence and data analytics in banking, the growing presence of fintechs and technology companies in the financial sector, as well as the development of digital currencies, central bank digital currencies (CBDCs) and tokenised deposits, which are beginning to gain relevance within the global financial ecosystem.

The programme brings together leaders from the banking sector, including Paulo Macedo (CGD), Miguel Maya (Millennium BCP), Isabel Guerreiro (Santander), João Pedro Oliveira e Costa (BPI), Sérgio Frade (Crédito Agrícola) and Pedro Leitão (Banco Montepio), who will discuss the growth prospects for banking in a context of falling interest rates and structural transformation within the sector.

The opening session will be delivered by Manuel Castro Almeida, Minister for the Economy and Territorial Cohesion, and the closing session will be led by Gonçalo Regalado, CEO of Banco Português de Fomento.
