Marta Cortez authors article on artificial intelligence in legal practice and will serve as a judge in the Administrative Law Moot Court

Marta Cortez, junior associate at Morais Leitão in the Administrative and Public Law team, has published the article “How can law firms integrate AI into their practice safely? Adapting to the Legal Tech transformation” in issue no. 34 of the Revista Jurídica da AAFDL Editora.

The essay explores the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into law firms, focusing on strategies that ensure its safe and ethical use. It highlights the associated benefits, such as increased efficiency, enhanced legal research capabilities and the use of predictive analytics. At the same time, the article raises awareness of significant risks, namely data privacy and confidentiality concerns, algorithmic biases, and the potential over-reliance on automated systems. It also outlines technical and ethical guidelines aimed at supporting a responsible adoption of AI, ensuring client data protection, legal accuracy, and the integrity of the profession.

On 4 June, Marta Cortez will also serve as a judge in the Administrative Law Moot Court at the Faculty of Law of the University of Lisbon — an initiative organised by AAFDL, in collaboration with professors and practising lawyers.
