Morais Leitão is IFLR’s Portugal Law Firm of the Year 2020

Morais Leitão proudly announces that it has been nominated “Portugal Law Firm of the Year” by the reputed IFLR (International Financial Law Review) directory. The prestigious award was announced today by IFLR in its networks, given the impossibility of hosting the usual awards ceremony.

The “National Firm” awards are given to the firm with the best performance in the previous year, in terms of services rendered in the most innovative operations, across all legal areas. They highlight the innovation, novelty and complexity of the transactions assessed in a completely independent process involving interviews and in-depth research.

According to IFLR, “Morais Leitão sponsored an impressive range of deal innovations in 2019. The firm advised Banco Comercial Português (Millennium bcp) on the first AT1 issue by a Portuguese private bank. It worked on the Republic of Portugal’s inaugural Panda Bonds issuance, which represent first Eurozone sovereign to issue Chinese law debt. The firm advised Portugal-listed Inapa on its acquisition of Papyrus Group in Germany, which featured a novel price structure, Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian on the sale of Partex to PTT Exploration and Production (PTTEP), which signs off two years of work. The firm also worked with Sonae Sierra/Bankinter on establishing the first REIT in Portugal.”

Nuno Galvão Teles, managing partner of Morais Leitão, expressed that “we received this award with great enthusiasm. I thank IFLR for this unequivocal recognition of our team and our capacity as a full-service firm, dedicating ourselves with the same quality to all different legal areas. But I especially thank our clients, who challenge us daily to find the most innovative solutions. It is with them that we have grown, it is thanks to them that we win awards such as this important ‘Firm of the Year’”.
