Morais Leitão supports the conference “The Future of Europe’s Security”, which will take place on 27 January at the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, in Lisbon. The event is co-organised by the Portuguese Association of European Law (APDE) and the Centre for European Studies of the Institute of Political Studies at the Universidade Católica Portuguesa.

In an international context marked by rapid geopolitical, economic and strategic change, the conference offers an in-depth reflection on the key challenges facing European security and defence, as well as on strengthening the European Union’s strategic autonomy. The event provides a multidisciplinary forum for debate, bringing together policymakers, academics, institutional representatives and national and international experts.

The opening session will feature interventions by Rita Leandro Vasconcelos, President of APDE, and Mónica Dias, Director of IEP-Católica, followed by a keynote address by Paulo Rangel, Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Throughout the day, the programme will address core issues such as the current geostrategic situation in Europe, European defence, economic security and the new European industrial policy, as well as mechanisms for controlling subsidies and foreign investment. Confirmed speakers include Sofia Moreira de Sousa, Head of the European Commission Representation in Portugal, Luís Valença Pinto, President of Eurodefence Portugal, Luís de Almeida Sampaio, former Permanent Representative of Portugal to NATO, Nuno Cunha Rodrigues, President of the Competition Authority, and Madalena Oliveira e Silva, President of AICEP, among other leading experts.

The conference will conclude with an address by Inês Domingos, Secretary of State for European Affairs, underscoring the political and institutional significance of the event.
