Pedro Gouveia e Melo participates in the Virtual Conference on Africa Competition Regulation

Pedro Gouveia e Melo, partner at Morais Leitão, participated as a speaker in the Virtual Conference on Africa Competition Regulation, organised by Betweenity. The partner took part in “Session 4: Labour Market Cartels in Africa – Why the Perceived Regulatory Disinterest?”, held on 18 June, which focused on the limited attention that African competition authorities have given to labour market cartels.

The session addressed practices such as no-poach agreements and wage-fixing arrangements between employers which, although considered serious infringements in several international jurisdictions, have received limited regulatory scrutiny in Africa.

The event brought together representatives from competition authorities, lawyers, economists, and academics from around the world to discuss key challenges and trends in the enforcement of competition law across the African continent.
