Rui Patrício speaks at the debate on extended confiscation of assets at the Festival Transparente 2025

Rui Patrício, partner at Morais Leitão, is a speaker at the debate “Extended Confiscation of Assets: Safeguards vs Effectiveness in the Recovery of Illicit Gains”, taking place on 11 December, as part of the Festival Transparente 2025, organised by Transparência Internacional Portugal.

The debate brings together a panel of experts with complementary perspectives on the effectiveness and limitations of extended confiscation as a tool to combat corruption, confronting legal, judicial, and institutional approaches.

Joining Rui Patrício on the panel are:

  • Alexandra Leitão, former Minister for State Modernisation and Public Administration
  • João Conde Correia, Deputy Attorney General
  • Bárbara Churro, Judge at the Central Criminal Court of Lisbon

The session is moderated by Teresa Violante, Professor at NOVA School of Law and representative of Transparência Internacional Portugal.

The Festival Transparente is an annual initiative of TI Portugal that marks International Anti-Corruption Day, bringing together experts, policymakers and civil society to discuss key topics related to public integrity and the strengthening of transparency.
