Review | 3D: Digital Defense Dispatch
At the beginning of 2024, Morais Leitão launched the Digital Defense project, bringing together a dedicated team focused on cybercrime, digital evidence, and cybersecurity. The team, which had already been working closely with technological partners, was thus formalized and publicly presented with the aim of strengthening its specialization in this field. Shortly thereafter, Digital Defense expanded to include crypto-asset tracing, an activity it had been carrying out since 2018 but which, due to increasing complexity and demand, began to be performed using more advanced tools and specific certification. The digital publication 3D: Digital Defense Dispatch was created with the intention of sharing internal discussions on these topics with a broader audience.
In this first issue, we highlight an article by Jan Kerkhofs, Prosecutor and Director of the Cyber Unit of the Belgian Federal Prosecutor’s Office, on the Sky ECC case, a landmark in criminal investigations related to cybercrime. The publication also includes a reflection by Nuno Igreja Matos on criminal law and expressions of digital support, a legal article by Inês Costa Bastos on “tokenized” court orders, and an interview with Alexandre Senra, Brazilian Federal Prosecutor, on crypto-asset tracing. In addition, there is space for legislative updates, case law, and relevant events in the field. This edition also features a short story generated by artificial intelligence, acknowledging its role in the development of this project.
