Carina Branco

Partner

Carina Branco joined Morais Leitão as a partner in 2026 and is a member of the Intellectual Property, Technology and Personal Data department.

With a career spanning both private practice and in-house leadership, Carina brings extensive experience in advising on technology-driven business models and complex TMT matters. In 2017, she founded the Techlawyers© concept, a legal services brand aimed at the technology, IT, innovation and creative sectors, reflecting her longstanding commitment to the intersection between law and innovation. 

Between 2019 and 2026, Carina was a partner at pbbr, where she led the TMT practice.

Earlier in her career, between 2002 and 2017, she served as General Counsel at Novabase. During this period, she developed a practice with a strong international focus, supporting the company’s expansion into multiple jurisdictions, including the European Union, the United States, the Middle East, Asia, Africa and Latin America. The legal team under her leadership was a finalist in the ILO Awards (2012) in the “Commercial General” category and was recognised by the GC Powerlist (2017) in the Information Technology sector.

Carina has been consistently recognised by leading international directories such as Chambers and Partners and The Legal 500. In 2021, she was distinguished as “Lawyer of the Year IP/TMT” by Iberian Lawyer. 

Alongside her legal career, she is actively engaged in initiatives promoting innovation and leadership. In 2017 she was part of the “Portuguese Women in Tech” team, which was awarded first prize at the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation’s “Hack For Good” Hackathon with the CURA project. She also acted as a Design Thinking Coach (under Stanford University methodology) and, more recently, as a mentor on Meritas Women’s Leadership Mentoring Programme (2025). She holds qualifications in Communication, Leadership and Negotiation Techniques.

Law Degree (Católica Lisbon School of Law, 1994). Attendance of the Postgraduate Programme in Communication Law and Intellectual Property Law (Coimbra Faculty of Law, 1999). MBA for In-House Counsel (Questrom School of Business, Boston University, 2010).
