Claudia Santos Cruz, Partner of Morais Leitão and MDR Advogados, is Conference Co-Chair of the upcoming Biennial IBA African Regional Forum Conference – The leading-edge lawyer: Integrating technology, deciphering trends, and embracing ESG-driven transformative learning, which will take place in Johannesburg, South Africa, on 18 and 19 September.
As co-organiser, Claudia will take part in the opening session on 18 September.
On the second day of the conference, 19 September, she will participate in two sessions:
- As moderator of the “Women lawyers keynote address and fireside chat”, featuring Feizin Amlani (Excellent Consulting) and Sarah McKenzie (Webber Wentzel) – the panel will share their experience and advice on “Thriving, Not Surviving: The Path to Sustainable Legal Careers”
- As a speaker in the plenary session “Doing business in Africa: legal realities behind the headlines”, a lawyer-led discussion on the actual legal complexities of doing business across different African regions — East, West, Southern and francophone Africa. Designed as a dynamic regional roundtable with structured segments, this session will delve into the granular legal issues that can make or break deals on the continent. It will be chaired by Celia Becker (ENS, Sandton) and will feature contributions from Joyce Wambui Karanja (Bowmans), Bertrand Montembault (HSF Kramer) and Yosa Yosa (MAY and Company).
The Biennial Conference of the International Bar Association is one of the leading forums for discussion on legal practice in Africa, bringing together professionals from across the world to address technological integration, emerging global trends, and the growing relevance of ESG in the legal profession.
