On 13 November at 6:00 p.m., another edition of the Legal Course organised by ELSA at the University of Porto will take place, this time focusing on the theme “Marine Resource Exploration, Oil, Gas and Predatory Fishing: Legal and Climate Aspects.”
The session will be delivered by Claudia Santos Cruz, partner at Morais Leitão, widely recognised for her extensive experience in maritime law, energy and environmental regulation. Her participation underscores the firm’s commitment to legal education and to fostering discussion around the pressing challenges facing the law of the sea in the context of the climate emergency.
Adopting a critical and multidisciplinary approach, the session will address:
- the legal challenges of oil and gas exploration, including territorial disputes and environmental regulation;
- predatory fishing and its legal and ecological consequences;
- the climate impacts of marine resource exploitation, particularly on ocean ecosystems and sustainability;
- emerging legal responses, highlighting the role of international law, environmental regulation and innovative legal frameworks for sustainable resource use
Claudia Santos Cruz’s participation further highlights the relevance of maritime law in shaping legal solutions to meet global environmental demands.
