Claudia Santos Cruz, Partner at Morais Leitão, will participate as chair at the International Distribution Institute (IDI) Annual Conference, which will take place on 5 and 6 June 2026 in Lisbon.
The conference's theme this year is managing termination and post-termination in agency, distribution and franchise agreements. It will bring together specialists from various jurisdictions to discuss the key legal challenges associated with these matters.
As part of the programme, Claudia Santos Cruz will chair the discussion panel 'Enforcing personal guarantees in franchise relationships'. This session will examine the mechanisms available to franchisors to protect themselves against the risk of non-payment of royalties and breaches of confidentiality and non-competition obligations. Particular focus will be given to personal guarantees provided by key individuals within franchisee companies.
The panel will analyse the different ways in which such guarantees can be regulated contractually and the obstacles, both substantive and formal, that can hinder their effective enforcement across different jurisdictions. The discussion will also feature specialists from Brazil, the United States, and Sweden.
