Conference “The Boom ‘Data-to-Doorstep’ in Portugal” explores the country’s digital and energy economy

Nuno Galvão Teles, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Morais Leitão, and António Martins da Costa, President of AmCham Portugal, welcome participants to the conference “The Boom ‘Data-to-Doorstep’ in Portugal”, organised by AmCham Portugal. The event brings together public and private sector decision-makers to examine the convergence of data, energy and logistics and Portugal’s strategic positioning in the global digital economy.

The event explores the ongoing transformation, driven by the growth of data centres, the increasing importance of subsea cables and the evolution of Iberian logistics as a new form of transatlantic real estate. In a context of accelerating international investment, with a particular focus on US capital, the discussion centres on Portugal’s role as a hub connecting continents.

Key topics under discussion include challenges related to energy capacity, the reinforcement of network infrastructure and the demands associated with the expansion of artificial intelligence, including the need to support hyperscale loads, ensure grid flexibility and promote the integration of renewable energy through green PPAs.

The conference also seeks to address how Portugal can evolve into a next-generation energy and digital platform, aligning AI-scale power, grid readiness, subsea connectivity and land strategy, with a particular focus on hubs such as Sines, Lisbon/Setúbal and Leixões.

The programme features contributions from Miguel Stilwell de Andrade, CEO of EDP, Álvaro Beijinha, Mayor of Sines, Anna Margolis, Economic Unit Chief at the US Mission in Portugal, Francisco Horta e Costa, CEO of CBRE, and Robert Dunn, CEO of Start Campus, in a panel moderated by Francisco Sottomayor.

Closing remarks are delivered by João Bugalho, Chairman of the Real Estate Committee of AmCham, followed by a networking session.
