Francisco Mendes da Silva takes part in the ADN Jurista programme at Universidade Católica Portuguesa

Francisco Mendes da Silva, partner at Morais Leitão, is participating as a guest lecturer in the ADN Jurista programme, an initiative of the Faculty of Law of Universidade Católica Portuguesa in Porto, aimed at promoting political, media and European literacy among undergraduate law students.

As part of the "Temas da Polis" course, Francisco Mendes da Silva will deliver a lecture entitled "The Principle of Separation of Powers: Origins and Contemporary Significance. Politics and Law".

The session will focus on the origins and evolution of the principle of separation of powers, its importance in contemporary democratic societies, and the mechanisms that ensure a balance between the different branches of government. The discussion will also explore the relationship between politics and law, the role of sovereign bodies, and the significance of voting as a foundation of political legitimacy.

The ADN Jurista programme reflects the Faculty of Law of Universidade Católica Portuguesa's commitment to educational innovation, offering students complementary learning opportunities and encouraging critical reflection on key issues essential to understanding society and democratic institutions.
