Agile access to knowledge is a competitive advantage. It was with this vision that Morais Leitão, in partnership with Xpand IT, developed ML One AI, a Generative Artificial Intelligence solution that allows the firm's teams to consult internal knowledge through natural language questions.
In an organisation with a large volume of internal knowledge spread across different sources and formats, making it accessible is a strategic imperative. Over several decades, Morais Leitão has built up a body of articles, publications, templates, court submissions and other internally produced documentation, largely held in iManage, a platform that centralised the documents but did not allow for natural language search.
One principle guided the project from the outset: the firm's knowledge remains within its own environment, with the levels of security, confidentiality and governance that legal practice demands.
ML One AI offers a conversational experience that brings together different sources. Users choose where to search, namely the library, the internal knowledge base or the web, and receive answers with reference to the sources used. The solution also distinguishes between types of knowledge: factual content forms the basis for generated answers, while templates and court submissions are presented as suggestions, leaving it to the user to decide whether to add them to the conversation.
The result is a tool that allows our teams to find and mobilise the information they need with greater agility, strengthening our responsiveness to clients.
"With ML One AI, our lawyers can now engage in natural language with the legal knowledge Morais Leitão has built up over the years. The answers come in our language, with our experience, with our DNA. We have built a technological vehicle that thinks with us," says Carlos Coelho, Director of Innovation and Knowledge at Morais Leitão.
