Save the Date | 60 Years of the Portuguese Civil Code

On 25 November 2026, the Miguel Galvão Teles Institute will mark the 60th anniversary of the Portuguese Civil Code with a conference bringing together judges, lawyers, academics and other legal experts to reflect on six decades of the Code's influence and on the challenges associated with its modernisation.

The event will provide a forum for discussion on the evolution of Portuguese private law, the role played by the Civil Code over the past sixty years and the perspectives for its future development.

The initiative is coordinated by Rui Patrício, Coordinator of the Miguel Galvão Teles Institute and Partner at Morais Leitão, Joana Galvão Teles, Professor at NOVA School of Law, Arbitrator and Partner at Morais Leitão, and Catarina Monteiro Pires, Professor at the Faculty of Law of the University of Lisbon, Arbitrator and Partner at CMP – Arbitration, Legal Expertise, Complex Disputes.
