Senior Associate

Duarte Santana Lopes joined the firm in 2007. He is a member of the litigation team.

His activity focuses on the assistance of clients in the context of criminal and misdemeanour cases, especially in economic and financial domain. Duarte has extensive trial experience, having been involved in various high-profile litigation cases in Portugal.

In recent years, Duarte has been intensely working on compliance matters, in particular relating to the prevention of corruption, money laundering and terrorist financing.

Between 2013 and 2015, Duarte was seconded from the Firm to MdME, in Macau, where besides being the International Representative for China of the Morais Leitão Legal Circle, he worked mainly in the areas of criminal, civil and administrative litigation.

Since 2017, he is a Guest Professor at the Nova Law School (Interdisciplinary Legal Practice).


Law Degree (University of Lisbon School of Law, 2007). Attendance of Postgraduate Studies in Punitive Law of Independent Regulatory Authorities (University of Lisbon School of Law). Intensive Specialization Course in Financial Technology Challenges - Fintech in a Data Economy (University of Lisbon School of Law, 2017).
