5th Security Council meeting | Legal security

In 2022, the Expresso newspaper - together with Continente, Galp, Altice, Allianz, Morais Leitão and ACIN - launched a project to evaluate the security of our society in several aspects, bringing together experts from different areas, gathering stakeholders and influencing public policies.

The fifth meeting of the Security Council, organized by Morais Leitão, was attended by lawyers Rui Patrício, Magda Viçoso, Duarte Santana Lopes and David Silva Ramalho, alongside Nuno Serdoura dos Santos (Public Prosecutor at the Oporto Regional Prosecutor's Office) and Ana Ribeiro Marques (Head of Compliance, The Navigator Company).

Rui Patrício was responsible for the opening of the first panel debate dedicated to the topic "The investigation of cybercrime". David Silva Ramalho joined Nuno Serdoura dos Santos to talk about trends in cybercrime and criminal investigation in the digital environment and judicial practice in this field.

The second panel was dedicated to the topic "Compliance in the company: the culture of prevention" in which Magda Viçoso answered the questions "What are the benefits for the company of a robust compliance culture/system?” and “how do we identify and manage its risk?". Duarte Santa Lopes clarified how a culture of compliance can be built through the legal dimension and which are the main risks associated to non-compliant practices.

The meeting aimed to debate legal security in a digital environment, cybercrime and the legal mechanisms that can help combat and stop cyberattacks.
