Martim Krupenski speaks to Jornal de Negócios about innovation, talent and internationalisation

In an interview with Jornal de Negócios, Martim Krupenski, managing partner of Morais Leitão, discusses some of the main challenges transforming the legal sector, in a context shaped by increasing competition, technological developments and the need to attract and retain talent.

Growth, innovation and talent

Martim Krupenski highlights the positive evolution of the firm in recent years and stresses the need to continue adapting the way legal services are delivered to meet new market demands. In an increasingly competitive sector, he considers it essential to strengthen the ability to innovate and differentiate, both from a technical and technological perspective.

Meritocracy is also one of the central themes of the interview, linked to the need to create opportunities for progression and to attract and retain talent. At the same time, the managing partner underlines the importance of preserving the firm’s culture and striking a balance between competitiveness, career progression and solidarity across generations.

Innovation and Artificial Intelligence are also strategic priorities. Martim Krupenski highlights Morais Leitão’s investment in these areas, with the aim of developing more innovative ways of delivering legal services and legal-based solutions that add value for clients.

Internationalisation and new areas of investment

Internationalisation is another key focus. More than one third of the firm’s turnover currently comes from international business, an area that Morais Leitão intends to continue developing. The strategy includes Europe and the United States, as well as strengthening its presence in the southern hemisphere, notably through offices in Angola, Mozambique and Cape Verde and partnerships in other African markets.

In Portugal, Martim Krupenski also refers to the firm’s investment in areas such as technology, life sciences and startups, and identifies urban planning and environmental law, tourism, real estate, healthcare, data centres and financial regulation among the sectors attracting greater investor interest. To strengthen Portugal’s attractiveness, he points to legislative and regulatory stability and faster decision-making as particularly important factors.
